Sidney Edd Cathey was born in Duncan, Oklahoma, on July 25, 1955, son of Wilford (Bill) and Leveta Edwards Cathey. He graduated from Black Hawk College, Kewanee, Illinois with an Associate degree in 1976, and received a BA from Moody Bible Institute in 1980. In 1985 he earned his M.Div from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, Deerfield, Illinois. He is presently pursuing a Doctor of Ministry degree at Trinity School for Ministry, Ambridge, PA. Ordained by the Siouxlands Presbytery, PCA, on June 23, 1985, he served as Pastor of First Presbyterian Church (PCA), in Hinckley, Minnesota from 1985 until 1988. That year, he and his family moved to Wilmington, where he served as Associate Pastor of Faith Presbyterian Church (PCA). In 1995 he accepted a call to become Associate Pastor at Emmanuel. In 2002 the Session changed his title to drop the associate designation. In July of 2006 Rev. Cathey was installed as Evangelist and Organizing Pastor for Grace and Peace, a mission of the Mid-Atlantic Presbytery (OPC).
Rev. Cathey married Jennifer Louise Bixler in Louisville, Ohio on June 20, 1982. They met while studying at Moody Bible Institute where she majored in Christian Education. Mrs. Cathey is very busy at home and also works as a Para-educator at Green Holly School. Their oldest child Megan (23) is continuing at the University of Delaware where she is a senior. Isaac (20) continues his studies in language as a sophomore at the University of the Americas in Puebla, Mexico. Emily (19), will be a freshman at Liberty University in the spring of 2007. Hannah, (18) recently graduated Tall Oaks Classical School in Christiana, Delaware where Rev. Cathey served as a board member for several years. Hannah is a freshman at Trinity International University in Deerfield, Illinois. Olivia (16), Aaron (15), Timothy (13), and Stephen (7), are attending The Kings Christian Academy in Callaway, MD.
